White Church Preservation Project
The Jefferson Township Historical Society (“JTHS”) is a non-profit organization with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revue Code and is located in the 46th District. It has undertaken an enthusiastic Preservation Project to preserve its historic White Church Building, built in 1844. It was built by an abolitionist church group under the direction of the Wesleyan Methodists who felt that the local churches were pro slavery. In the 1870’s the church disbanded and the members went back to their original churches. The White Church was then used as a home until the Historical Society bought it in 1990. It is the only abolitionist church building still standing in our area.
The White Church is uniquely located in a tri-state area attracting visitors from Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. It has been awarded historic landmark designations by the Washington County History and Landmark Foundation for the White Church and Heritage Hall, built 1876. The White Church Building is a useful site for community events and its monthly meetings and Heritage Hall houses its museum. The White Church is located at 11 Fire Road, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
The White Church Building needs major repairs. We have obtained a Local Share Grant to cover much of the costs, and we need community support to complete the project funding. Can you or your business help us reach our remaining goal of $20,000? Your contribution will ensure a safe, warm meeting place for the Historical Society and community for many years to come. A contribution of any size is welcome for this worthwhile and commendable White Church Preservation Project. You may mail your contribution to Jefferson Township Historical Society, White Church Project, Box 383, Burgettstown, PA 15021.

Thanks to Dave Choman, there is now a new handicap entrance into the White Church, drain pipes have been installed around the White Church, the front door has been refurbished and many more improvements have been made. Thanks to Judy Cooper who has documented this whole process from beginning to end by taking pictures and putting them in an album.
